Course Philosophy

• I will not cover the book completely or in any order, an attempt will be made to motivate each lesson by
  building a knowledge base that can eventually be applied to a broad range of problems.

• If we learn how to use a certain sensor, we will soon be applying that sensor to a larger measurement system designed to analyze the characteristics of one of a few machines. Hands on Laboratory sessions will be lead by teaching assistants; however, I may actively participate in some of the laboratories.

• The first lecture each week will cover material from the book, and all together will present the necessary
  theory for designing and executing the required lab measurements.

• The Lab lectures (generally on Monday, second half of class) will be a description of the"week of" laboratory session

  • LAB ATTENDENCE IS REQUIRED (your report grade will be lowered 25% for missing a lab, even if you file a perfect report). The lab Teaching Assistants will be instructed to not provide help to anyone unaware of the material presentedin the previous week's lecture material.

  • Unless you make PRIOR arrangements, EACH student ou must attend their assigned lab section. Previous week lab report lab is due at the beginning of the current week's lab.

• No late labs accepted without prior arrangement.

Grading Policy

• Midterm Exam
  • Midterm exam will cover material presented in class, in the laboratory, plus material in the text
    covered by the assigned reading.
• Laboratory Sessions
  • There will be approximately 10 "hands-on" lab sessions
• Labs are required and students MUST attend the laboratory section to which they are registered.
  • There will be no laboratory makeups without prior permission of the course instructor.
• Regular laboratory reports will be turned in at the start of the following laboratory period.
  • No late reports will be accepted without prior permission of instructor.
  • Lab reports may include homework exercises.
  • Non-completed Lab report will score as "two zeroes" on final student score
• Each laboratory section will complete a Final Design Project instad of a final exam.
  • Each lab section will complete a final project with a written report and oral briefing.
  • Each student will be peer-evaluated by other members of the laboratory section
    

Grades will be assigned based on a relative comparison of total student scores.

            c. Peer Evaluations (10%)

Intent is for this class to be a practical learning experience and not an exercise in "test taking"
